The pics below are of a cooker enamelled this week in Kent near Sandwich. It looks pretty normal but the flue arrangement was unique which presented a few challenges - nothing is ever straightforward with Agas! It has been inherited with the house by its current owners and it was in a bit of a state. As soon as I walked in I knew I'd enjoy cleaning the front! Also we had a lovely welcome!
I expected some permanent staining under all this but also knew loads would come off. What looks like scratches in the enamel is actually failed attempts at cleaning in the past!
On this job we were to replace the hob and lids with beautiful re-enamelled versions. Because these items take much more abuse than the front there is no other option. We replace hinge blocks, towel rail brackets and every part of the lid. The only original items left visible on the top of this cooker will be the hotplates themselves and the expansion rings around them.
Once we had the top off the cooker we were able to replace the whole of the thermometer. Sometimes we can clean them up and replace the scale plate only but not in this case. You can see where the bulb of the thermometer enters the Aga and sits in a housing just above the roasting oven. Its covered over with insulation before the hob goes back on.
So, how did the cleaning go?! The video below shows the results. Not perfect but a huge improvement I hope you'll agree!
The full effect is shown below. New lovely shiny chromes to reflect the blackboard above!
