How to roast chestnuts in an Aga

A seasonal tip for you as I was experimenting with this over the weekend! I love roasted chestnuts; eaten warm they have that lovely floury, steamy, sweet and nutty flavour.

Prepare the chestnuts for roasting in the Aga as you would in any oven. Cut an 'X' on the curved side that is approximately 2mm deep.

Place your prepared chestnuts on a roasting tray with a little sprinkling (a tablespoon or two) of water to stop them drying out.

Pop one of your Aga's oven shelves onto the floor of the roasting oven (if you have the new style 'anti-tilt' shelves you may need to buy one of our old style Aga shelves to use on the oven floors) and then place your roasting tray and chestnuts on this shelf.

Your chestnuts will need 30-45 minutes to roast and may need to be turned. You won't beat chestnuts roasting in an Aga because of the radiant heat of your Aga's ovens - it's perfect for it!

Peel the chestnuts while still warm and serve, voila! Merry Christmas from Blake & Bull!
