The gales and squally showers of this past wet march week have brought with them a happy flurry of Drying Rack photos!
It has been a wet week, this I can testify as yesterday morning I was out in the garden at 6:45am relieving my overflowing water butt of excess water, bucket by bucket. Happy to see the Peony buds poking through the sod as I liberally spread the water over the already damp ground though!
Lyn put hers to immediate use - Thank you so much for my drying rack."It’s already come in useful for drying clothes, pans, trainers and (as you’ll see from the photo) even my grandson’s toys. It easily folds down and stores next to the range which is really handy. All in all an excellent product with the added bonus of some free sweets!" ★★★★★
Nicole soon found hers to be indispensable - "Absolutely fantastic. Don’t know how I survived all these years without one!" ★★★★★
Marilyn uses hers for proving bread! "Brilliant! Can't think why we haven't had one before. It drys clothes well and also is great for proving bread! ★★★★★
A wonderful pic to go with these kinds words! Love the mirrored splash back with the bottles in front! "Love my chef's pads, they are so attractive, subtle pattern and colour. Especially keen on the fact they will attach easily to the handles, great design feature. On most other company's pads the loops are too small and totally useless. I can highly recommend Blake and Bull." Thank you Caroline-Jane! 😍
Rust happens! Some is easy to deal with, a bit of elbow grease and some low impact cleaning products works wonders!
But sometimes the rust is just too deep to come back from, even with a grinder.
Hot plates can become pitted, if rust is left unchecked. The pesky divots that form reduce contact with your pan, and heat transfer. Making the hotplates less efficient and more expensive to run.
Rust on underside of Aga range cooker top.
Bob did just that earlier this year "New hot plate - I was wary of replacing this very heavy part but Blake & Bull answered all my questions so I felt confident enough to tackle it. I was shocked when an item weighing 30 kilos was delivered free!! Spot on service!" June 2019
There are other less weighty but equally impactful cast iron parts that can replaced too!
This is a grotty old expansion ring next to a shiny shot blasted one! I did have a go at cleaning one using our super useful wire brushes, and it did recover from the rust really well. But if I had cleaned, scraped, and refurbished my cooker, then I would put a shiny one in!
And to insulation, protect, and seal its underside? A pleasing cosy coil of plump rope seal! This prevents debris dropping through to the rock wool / modern insulation (if you have upgraded) below, and gives your insulation a boost - improving efficiency!

With a little shot blast..
Warming cupboard bling!
A great tip from Ali on the 'simple breakfasts' theme! "At 5am, I measure one-third of a cup of simple muesli into a bowl, add some dried mixed spice and sultanas plus one cup of milk and put into bottom/simmering oven. Then I take my dog out for a walk - very dark and muddy at the moment! On my return an hour later there is a very welcome hot bowl of muesli porridge awaiting me 👌Simple. No need to plan the night before 😀"
At Blake and Bull HQ we tested our heavy duty baking trays with pizza, like locusts the Blake and Bull men devoured the results, so I think it was a winner!
Here is our top tip if you run a busy home, and need to produce a speedy supper after the children's school run, scout pick up, ballet lesson, & piano exam!!
Pop the trays in the roasting oven to pre-heat in advance. Have your pizzas ready for when you and your brood come home. On your return from being a parent taxi you can slide your supper right in and know that it will be done in minutes. 😀
We tested 4 trays. You can easily fit 4 thin crust pizzas in, just allow a few extra mins than if you were doing three or two. Four cooked nicely in 22 mins, I think 3 would be 18, 2 would be 15 and one probably only 10 or so mins.
The cast iron trays sit beautifully on the runners, and they have a lip to the front which made me feel more secure in lifting the tray in and out. Easy to look after, the baking trays need an occasional seasoning with natural flax oil, to keep them at their best.
The trays also retain heat brilliantly, so if like me you struggle to get your kids to the table because they are too busy making their room into a lego encrusted, cuddly toy covered den of disaster, the pizza will not cool quickly! Also great for more sophisticated meals when you want to serve hot and with style at the table!
