A fine mess indeed!

This message (see at bottom of image!) from Philip made me laugh yesterday! This is a 'Standard' model from the 1950's and by now it was supposed to be completely re-enamelled in beautiful cream. A few problems reared their heads during the works though.

Firstly the top oven casting was broken and basically fell apart when everything around it was removed. Secondly you can see the secondary air pipe below the burner poking out. We've learnt our lesson with these and thoroughly inspect them before reassembling - lo and behold this had fully disintegrated about 6 inches back! Thirdly we found several holes big enough to out your hand through in the back plate. What a joy!

Needless to say Philip is a pro and explained all this to the customer (Hi Mr F if you see this!). Once he had finished removing the dusty kieselguhr insulation and tidying up he headed to our secondary storage unit (a shipping container full of second hand parts on the farm!) and found exactly what he needed to replace all 3 bits. He and I will be back on Monday to finish the job - I'll post pics when we have. Fingers crossed we can get it all back together*!

* just joking Mr F 😉
