Have We Lost Our Bottles?

We were honoured to rescue a beautiful 1936 cooker this week, more to come on that! (dirty hard work but worth it). Amongst the oven parts were some old advisory pamphlets and cookbook sheets.

Blake and bull kitchen ware cookware textiles bakeware laundry racks drying racks linens refurbishment spares cleaning re-enamelling recipes baking trays baking tins baking goods and services for range cookersOn these pages I found a small collection of recipes and instructions for bottling vegetables, not pickling, but wet storing seasonal produce for the oncoming winter. The Aga range cooker oven is used to 'Oven Dry Pack' or 'Can' the allotment or garden hoard in Mason or Kilner jars. In most cases only sugar or salt are added to the water..

With the summer seasonal glut approaching I was keen to know if any of you do this?

Please do get in touch if you have, or you remember a family member doing so!

Katy Boys

Katy is a rural girl at heart. She loves long walks, home cooking, paddling in rivers, warm fires and socks and stomping in leaves with her children. After studying ‘drawing stuff’ at university in Bath, Katy spent 10 years selling wares and managing folk at Habitat in Bath. Welcoming children into her world prompted her to return to drawing things, people and places from home. This led her to us at Blake & Bull and the rest is history. She draws our stuff, provides cuddles for the office dog, and is here to chat to you lovely lot.
