So happy to hear from Pat this week with this spring snap shot of their ingenious new bird house, nestled in the shade of their shed.
"25 year old kettle finally gave up. Makes a great pad for a Blue tit, who was seen this morning investigating the entrance. He wouldn’t stay for a photo shoot though!
We cut the hole with a mini circular saw on his drill, then used the cut out as a washer to screw the branch on the handle. He split a length of plastic pipe to edge the hole. It may be too late for a new resident now, but today I have seen two blue tits (or the same one twice) peering inside, so fingers crossed...or maybe next year."
Your kettle earned it's keep I reckon, with 25 years innings Pat! Do let us know if anyone moves in!
Makes you wonder what else can be given new life! Cast iron barrel (the big bit from inside the heart of an Aga range cooker) planters maybe? Full with red strawberries? Or Oil Burner ring lampshades?!.. I am off to rummage in the Blake & Bull recycling skip!
