At Blake & Bull, we are big advocates of ticking off the bulk of your Christmas day cooking list in advance! It leaves far more time for moments with your loved ones, or let's face it, a quiet break in your favourite chair with a glass of port! Thank you to Hilary, who generously shared her top nutty tip!
"I boil ours in salted water, then I peel them removing all the inner peel ( it’s bitter) leaving them as whole as possible. Pop them in a bowl with a few knobs of butter, salt and pepper, then place in the bottom oven to keep warm on Christmas Day & serve with the main meal. It’s not a proper Christmas dinner without them and so nice the day after with cold leftovers, and all the pickles! Can’t wait. Already done the chestnuts, in the freezer waiting."
Good work Hilary!
Remember you can always substitute the butter with a vegan alternative, treat yourself to a knock out olive oil!
After all that good work why not try this recipe for a nut roast? It had my mouth watering, and I think will work well as a side 'stuffing' dish as well as being celebrated as a centrepiece for the main meal! You will need 150g of nuts prepped as above.
