Thank you to Bob, who was happily surprised with our service..
During our reconditioning & convertingadventures we like to save as much as we can from scrap. Cast iron can serve for years, decades in fact. We take care to shot blast( yes it can look as new! )and restore what we can. This also means that we sometimes have rare parts in our spares stash!
In fact, our spares collection is growing. The aisles of our virtual spares shop are definitely worth a peruse if you are doing some maintenance during the summer switch off.
"New hot plate - I was wary of replacing this very heavy part but Blake & Bullanswered all my questions so I felt confident enough to tackle it. I was shocked when an item weighing 30 kilos was delivered free!! Spot on service!" June 2019
Happy to have been of 'spot on service' with this hot spot! 😂
These hot plates were restored by Philip just last week, the lids were fully restoredtoo and the hob re-enamelled.
You can have a go at cleaning up your hotplates too. You will need some gentle determination and a wire brush set! Here is how to safely clean your cast iron ovens and hotplates. Cleaning hotplates is low impact, just a set of wooden brushes with a little Olive oil and paper towel.
If you do scrub them, follow Matthew's tip if you intend to keep your Aga range cooker off for the remainder of the warm season (we live in hope!) -
"On all cookers it's a good idea to allow air to circulate under the lids while the cooker is off. If not you can get a little condensation that can rust the hotplate surface the the iron expansion rings around them. When your cooker has cooled completely use a little kitchen roll with olive oil it and wipe a thin coating across the hotplate and expansion rings to protect it. Now find an old pencil, snap it in half and pop each under the front of each lid to raise it very slightly. This will let air circulate without looking ugly!" Matthew, Blake & Bull Owner.
