DIY Aga Range Cooker Refurbishment - What You Can Do And What It Costs!
Stepping back and looking at your cooker, working out what it needs, sorting out where to buy it and how to do it is a daunting thing!
Hopefully we have made it a little easier, and that bit more cost effective with our kits and guides. Our bestselling DIY Mini-refurb Kit is a top to bottom 'whole shebang'.
You may want to start small however and build your confidence, maybe with a rope seal or too! Either way, whatever you see here will have a direct impact on your running costs this winter.
Small tasks

Arguably one of the jobs that has the most impact on your running costs is updating your insulation. Mr C reduced his external surface temp by an average of 18℃ when he carried out a DIY Refurb and Insulation top up!

Next up, cleaning kits! Possibly the most visually impactful job you can do, and best done in the summer months when your cookers is off so that you can get really stuck in. If attempting it when your cooker is on, follow Matthew's tip,but you will get the best results and be safer (no burns) when the cooker is cool!

Lid Rope Seals £39.60, (come also as part of our DIY mini refurb kit)
"New lid seals look great and prevent contact heat transfer into the lid assembly which can allow heat from your cooker to bypass the insulation in the lids." Matthew
These springy seals are super easy to replace and come with glue too! They also come as part of our larger kits. All you need to do is pry your old flattened expired seal off, clean away any old glue with a scraper or small wire brush (careful not to scratch your liner) and glue into place. The springiness comes from the encasing wire mesh, which makes the seal last longer and perform better.
Medium Tasks
These tasks are a bit more labour intensive, but you will save cash buying seals, pads, and liners as part of a kit.

Add Insulation pads for £30 and a handy kits of tools (if your screws are rusted/stuck and holes need tapping) for £10.
This is a triple whammy of tasks in one comprehensive kit, the impact on customers cookers is a joy to see! You can save £8.80 on the pads, when you buy them as part of this kit. Small savings start to add up when you buy the packages.
If your lids are too hot to the touch, and you are finding that textile hob covers are scorching on them then your insulation is failing. And that means that you are paying for heat that is, simply put, escaping. This in turn makes your hotplates less hot.
While you're at it you can do your door liners too!

You can expect to reduce surface temp by between 10-22% based on Mr H's findings when he updated his liners, seals and door insulation.

Now onto the meaty tasks, this is the whole shebang, the most cost effective way to buy all that I have talked out here, and will take you a little time. BUT they will have the most impact on your fuel bills!
