The Best Veggie Burger That You Will Ever Eat..?
A recipe that satisfy's both tummy and conscience. It is cheap too!
Nourishing veg, chick peas and bulgar wheat form the base of this patty. The burgers are moist, very tasty, and virtuous! Bulgar wheat is proven to have more nutritional value than brown rice, quicker to cook too, so easier on your fuel.
Prep your mix 1-2 hours ahead of cooking, allowing time to chill.

You may need...
- The best frying pan that you will ever use! or
- A pan that moves from hob to oven floor
- A mixing bowl & spoon
- A food processor
- A fridge!
- A grater if no food processor
- 50g Finely grated carrot, peeled
- 50g Finely grated red onion
- 1 Free range egg
- 2 Heaped tbsp of plain flour
- 1.5 400g Tins of chick peas (in water)
- 1 Tsp of ground cumin
- 1.5 Tsp of ground coriander
- Salt to taste
- Lots of ground black pepper
- 2 Garlic cloves squished
- Half a teaspoon of paprika
- 50g Of cooked and seasoned bulgar wheat - (cold and as dry as you can get it)
- A few grates of lemon zest
- a squeeze of lemon juice
- Fresh coriander, to taste
- A teaspoon of fresh ginger grated
- A little rapeseed oil for frying
Lets get cooking!
1. Cook your bulgar wheat - should take 7-8 mins, let it steam dry then cool. You want it as dry as possible.
2. Grate you onion and carrots, squish your garlic and weigh out your spices into your food processor
3. Set aside half a tin of chick peas with the bulgar wheat
4. put all your other ingredients into a food processor and blend until smooth. If you think it is really too wet then you can add more flour, or some breadcrumbs would be ideal, but it is a wet mix
5. Then add the bulgar and 1/2 tin of chick peas, pulse in your processor until combined but still a bit chunky
6. Chill for 1-2 hours
7. Warm you frying pan in your roasting oven
8. Heat a little oil in your pan
9. Fry the patties ( shaping them in your hands as you go) for around 5 mins either side using your panon the hotplate, or transfer to the oven floor and check and turn as required. A slow medium heat is better, and prevents them falling apart. This way you get a nice even crust. The Woll panis just so good at getting this just right!
10. Cut you bun, just before the patties are ready and toast slightly, soft side down, in the pan too!
11. Dress as you wish, I used fresh tomatoes, sriracha, good 'ol mayo, lettuce, coriander and red spring onion.
