The Great Green Acceleration

Electric Aga range cooker

With a gas or oil cooker you are running on 100% fossil fuels with very little control. Most of the money you'll spend disappears offshore to Russia, Saudi Arabia and various other unsavoury regimes.

With Blake & Bull multi element electric right now (whether we convert your existing cooker or install renewed) over a full year in the UK you'll be running on 40% renewable energy. You'll use less of that energy too as with more control your bills fall. A win win. If you choose a 'green' tariff then the additional spend on electric is funnelled into renewable projects in the UK.

The best thing about electric though is that every year, without you doing anything at all, your cooker becomes more sustainable. This was already happening before Russia invaded Ukraine.

Last week the amount of carbon produced per kw of electric (enough to run a kettle for 20mins) was 241g. The same week as recently as 2010 that figure was 552g. Running an Aga range cooker on electricity now is twice as sustainable as just 12 years ago! These figures are from the National Grids own 'Carbon Intensity Dashboard' - it's fascinating!

Looking forward this process looks set to speed up dramatically as we have become more aware (thanks Putin!) of our vulnerability to imported energy. More nuclear is coming but also a LOT more offshore wind, more onshore wind and even more connections abroad.

Did you know about Xlinks? This is a project that will deliver pure solar power (a lot of it at 3.6GW/h!) all the way from Morrocco to the UK via a cable 3800miles long by 2030. Thats 8% of ALL electric we use in the UK!

Every time a project like this, or another wind farm, or another nuclear plant, or many other projects, comes online your electric Aga range cooker will get more sustainable! In the UK, in common with many developed countries, we are aiming to get ALL of our electricity from renewable sources by 2035. That's 13 years away and it's the main reason we think electricity is the only responsible choice for Aga range cookers.

We install electric cookers and convert existing ones and are proud to do so. Our contribution to a more sustainable world - one Aga range cooker at a time.
