Electric Aga Toastie Challenge - 'Twanger Toastie' {no hotplate needed!}

We are spoiled for great local cheese here in the west country, Glastonbury is not far, and the 'Twanger' cheese is a particularly deliciously strong hard cheese loved by the Blake & Bull team {from this artisan maker}

One of the dishes that our clients worry about not being able to make on a converted Aga range cooker is the 'Hotplate Toastie'. You can still make a toastie on an electric Aga range cooker for sure! But you will save money by not turning the hotplates on, and using the oven instead!

But you might not want hot twanger on your oven floor, and placing non stick on an electrikit floor is not advised! So at Blake & Bull we thought we would solve the quandary.

We placed one of our heavy full size enamel trays on the bottom of the roasting oven floor. Then a large sheet of non stick was folded in half on top of this upside down tray. Then on the runners another heavy full size enamel tray was put the right way up.

After 10 mins of warming through {just enough time to prep the toastie} we lifted out the top tray, and slid our toasties {yes two!} in between the folded non stick. We only had the roasting oven at 160℃. We popped the 'right way up' tray back in and pushed it down onto the runners {with a gloved hand}. 1/2 way through cooking {about 10 mins} we flipped them.

Oh my goodness they were so good! They come with a warning from Luna {ops manager} though, 'you may need a little nap after!'.

You will find tips & best practices specifically for Electrikit Aga range cooker users here on this page {to be continued...}

Katy Boys

Katy is a rural girl at heart. She loves long walks, home cooking, paddling in rivers, warm fires and socks and stomping in leaves with her children. After studying ‘drawing stuff’ at university in Bath, Katy spent 10 years selling wares and managing folk at Habitat in Bath. Welcoming children into her world prompted her to return to drawing things, people and places from home. This led her to us at Blake & Bull and the rest is history. She draws our stuff, provides cuddles for the office dog, and is here to chat to you lovely lot.
