Description:
Dried citrus fruits make beautiful, natural Christmas decorations and it takes no time at all to slice a few oranges and pop them into the simmering oven to dry out. Use them to decorate the tree, a wreath or combine with some simple greenery to make a pretty seasonal garland.

Method:
-
Slice oranges and blot with kitchen paper to remove excess juice from surface of slices.
-
Line a roasting tin with silicone baking sheet or greaseproof paper and sit the grill rack inside. Lay the orange slices on the rack.
-
Slide into the simmering oven and dry out for 4-6 hours, depending on size and juiciness of fruit. You can also do this overnight in the warming oven.
-
To make a simple garland, use a skewer to make holes in the slices (though often natural holes appear) and thread with string or ribbon. Either stick with just citrus slices, or alternate with dried bay leaves, rosemary or cinnamon sticks.
Aga range cooker tips:
- Simply thread each orange slice with some string and hang on the tree for lovely simple, natural decorations.
- Attach slices to a wreath using a little florist wire.
- If not completely dry, the orange slices will eventually start to go mouldy – I make a fresh batch each year.
