Apple crisps

Overview:

Recipe Name:  Apple crisps recipe with instructions for Aga range cookers

By:

Meal Type: Accompaniment
Prep Time: 15 Minutes

Cook time: Up to 7 hours

Servings: n/a

Description:

These delicious apple crisps are a great snack to have on standby for hungry children (or adults). Making your own is easy – your Aga range cooker does the work – and they are much cheaper than similar shop-bought snacks.

You'll need...

Ingredients:

  • Eating apples
  • Lemon juice
  • Cinnamon (optional)
  • Method:

    1. Wash and dry the apples. No need to peel. Slice very thinly across the apple – slices should be approximately 3mm thick. Slice through the core when you reach the centre and push out the pips. As you work, place the circular slices into a bowl of water with a good squeeze of lemon juice to prevent the going brown.

    2. Pat the slices dry on kitchen paper and lay out on the grill shelf and sit within a roasting tin lined with a silicone baking sheet. Dust with a little cinnamon, if liked. Slide the roasting tin in the simmering oven and bake for 6-7 hours until crisp.

    Aga range cooker tips:

    • Cooking time will depend on the size and variety of your apples. Check after 5 hours but they may need up to 8 hours.
    • If you have a warming oven, put the apples in here overnight to dry out.
    • Store the apple crisps in an airtight container.
